STAND UP FOR OHIO!
Ohio has a proud history as a place of good jobs and strong communities. We’re in tough times today, but we’ve faced tough times before and always came through with a continued commitment to be a place where people could find good jobs and strong communities. That proud tradition is at risk today from elected leaders who see Ohio’s future differently. Many of our elected leaders have an announced intention to attack the underpinnings of what has made Ohio great. Education, human services, workers’ rights, and a safe environment all are likely targets of those in charge of our state.
In response, there are many groups that are working on important aspects of these issues. We believe that, important as these individual campaigns are, it is not enough to wage separate campaigns on specific issues. We believe that we must stand together for each other’s fights as well. “Stand Up for Good Jobs and Strong Communities” is a coalition of community, labor, civil rights, and environmental groups. We are made up of a broad range of organizations and citizen activists who are willing to commit time, energy, and resources into a broad campaign for good jobs and strong communities in Ohio. Together, we can make a difference.

Support workers at American Red Cross (ARC) Blood Services in Toledo!
If you donate blood in Toledo, you know the hard workers of ARC; they work for long hours, sometimes short-staffed, to fulfill the needs of our community. They collect the blood donated by generous volunteers, and then ARC Blood Services sells this blood to area hospitals.
The Blood Services division of American Red Cross is separate from the disaster relief division. So, when you are being solicited for donations to assist in times of catastrophe, those donations are strictly for that.
Blood services workers provide a valuable, important service to our community. You may think American Red Cross would honor this service by offering its workers livable wages, affordable health care, and decent working conditions...but this is not the case.
It seems that Executives at American Red Cross Blood Services are trying to downgrade these important jobs by demanding workers accept an insurance plan that bosses can change whenever they want. These Execs don't seem to care about the sacrifices workers have made to keep an affordable insurance plan. And it's not just demands on the health care that aren't fair; Execs also have unfair demands about wages, staffing, and decency.
ARC is trying to break workers' unions in Toledo, Buffalo, Michigan, Connecticut, California, and many places in between. It seems like they are hoping to force these workers to strike. These workers don't want to strike, they want to continue working to provide for their families and our communities.
